Prevalence and predictive factors of elder mistreatment in Chinese migrant families<sup>†</sup>

Abstract Objectives To examine the prevalence of and identify predictive factors for elder mistreatment (EM) in Chinese migrant families. Methods This was a cross-sectional study. A total 489 rural elderly were recruited using multistage sampling technique from communities Wenzhou city between June 2020 October 2020. All participants completed Mini-Cog, then data collected survey 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey Questionnaire, Abuser's Dependency Scale, Friendship Scale (FS), Intergenerational Ambivalence Filial Piety Index, Assessment Tool Domestic Elder Abuse, demographic questionnaire. Descriptive statistics multiple regression carried out to analyze data. Results The prevalences physical mistreatment, psychological neglect, economic social among 1.23%, 20.65%, 22.50%, 0.61%, 9.41%, respectively. Significant elderlies’ mental health status (β = −0.118, P < 0.01), adult children's filial piety (FP) −0.245, 0.001), intergene rational ambivalence 0.365, 0.001). Conclusions EM common elderly. Predictive families identified. findings could be useful developing nursing interventions promote health, uphold their FP, harmonize intergenerational relationship avoid EM.
